  • Flip chart and pens
  • Microphone and basic sound system
  • IPad for playing Spotify (you’ll need your own login)

Disabled access?

Unfortunately not, as we’re in an old building.  However, we hope to be able to create disabled access as we grow.

Parking?

There is on-street parking on Hanbury Street, that’s free after 7:30pm, or 2:30pm on Sundays.  You can also find metered parking just further up Hanbury Street if you drive East from the cafe.

Alternatively, there is a large car park on Brick Lane opposite the gated entrance to the Truman Brewery.  They charge approximately £10 per day.  Exact Location : 91 Brick Lane, E1 6QL.

Can you provide catering?

Our delicious food is homemade on site, and is locally and ethically sourced. We can provide a variety of catering options for your event and we are more than happy to work with you on specific catering requirements. Here is an example of what’s on offer.

Breakfast:

Homemade breakfast muffins, fresh orange juice and a sharing bowl of fruit for £5 per head.

Add sourdough free-range bacon or fried egg sandwiches for an extra £4.50 per head

Lunch:

You have the option of pre-ordering from our menu, which includes sourdough sandwiches, homemade soup, fresh salads and frittatas - or, we can provide platters of homemade sourdough sandwiches, homemade vegan hummus and fresh vegetable crudites and plates of homemade cakes for £10 per head. Add a large homemade savoury pie to share and a fruit bowl for £15 per head. Includes filter coffee and loose leaf tea.

Nibbles & Cakes:

If you’re looking for some sharing platters, we make delicious homemade vegan hummus, which we serve with fresh crudités and our amazing sourdough bread, with oil and vinegar. We pair these with our homemade cakes for £7.50 per head.

Our homemade cakes can be sugar-free, gluten-free, vegan and raw or if you’re looking for something more traditional, we can create a chocolate Guinness cake, coffee and walnut cake, chocolate brownies, white chocolate and blueberry muffins… whatever would work best for your event.

Other options:

Our wines can be available at a discounted rate if pre-ordered. For example, our bottles of house wine can be pre-ordered at £15 per bottle (usually £17.50), and prosecco at £20 per bottle (usually £22.50).

How do I go about booking the space?

Drop us an email at hello@thecanvascafe.org

How much does it cost?

We have various hire options, which range from straight hire per session to minimum spends and 50/50 splits on tickets.

Please note our rates are higher at weekends as these are our busiest café hours, and the basement is usually used as café seating at weekends. We are also unable to offer discounted rates at weekends, for the same reason.

Every event is offered an event page on our website, and if it’s a public event, this is then promoted on our social media channels.  We also send out a fortnightly newsletter, and have a fortnightly printed programme of events available to take away from the cafe.  We also have a large events blackboard in the cafe, advertising a months’ worth of events.

Do you have any noise restrictions?

For parties and music events, we have a maximum volume to avoid disturbing our neighbours who live above us.  Don’t worry, this isn’t really quiet, it’s just to avoid any problems late at night.

We do have neighbours living above us, so we do ask for you to leave the venue quietly after 10pm.
